Trail Cameras

Trail cameras are very beneficial in monitoring your property. In recent years, the quality of these devices has improved. Megapixels, trigger speed, memory cards, and video. Even infrared omitters are some of the options now available in most trail cameras.

When positioning your camera make sure that grass, brush, and other debris will not trigger the camera. Also, take into consideration, the sun will trigger your camera's sensor at certain times of the day. The best results have been when the camera is positioned on a trail so the animal is picked up walking towards the camera. If the camera is positioned to photograph the animal broadside, sometimes the camera will not trigger in time and the wildlife will have gone past the viewing area. The closer to the wildlife the better the photograph. Experience has shown nighttime images with flash appears not to disturb the animals in their natural habitat.

There have been spectactular photographs taken at night of trophy animals up close. Infrared videos are incredible because the footage is very detailed. Don't be afraaid to experiment with positioning and settings.

The addition of cameras to my routine when working on a food plot has been very enjoyable in many ways. It is very exciting to review the images and find the ultimate photograph.

Trail cameras have become a top priority to my management practices.
